Emmanuel Montiel is a graphic and textile designer based in Barcelona, with over 15 years of experience working for fashion retail at an international scale.
Trained in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and Illustration at Escola Llotja, he has developed print artwork, graphic collections, and creative direction for some of the most recognisable brands in global fast fashion — including Zara TRF, Zara ManZara Woman, Stradivarius, Dolls Kill, Mango, Urban Outfitters, and Primark, among others.
His work spans the full process — from initial concept and trend research to production coordination with manufacturers in Bangladesh and studios in Barcelona. Since 2021, he has worked as a Senior Textile Graphic Designer for Zara across its TRF, Man, and Woman lines.
Alongside his commercial practice, Emmanuel develops personal artistic projects and works as a children's illustrator. He has published 19 illustrated books, with titles released through Penguin Books and Travel Bug, among other publishers. His series Onin eta Sira, published for the ikastolas of Navarra, has been awarded the Juul Prize for Best Illustration six consecutive times.
His artistic work explores identity, memory, and cultural exchange. His series Flamenca, created during an artist residency at Studio Kura in Fukuoka, Japan, examines the unexpected connections between Spanish and Japanese popular culture through the figures of Lola Flores and Hibari Misora, painted onto photography and transferred onto live wood and everyday objects.
